Josh knew he should have been blissfully happy snuggled up in bed with Serena and Pete, but he couldn’t relax. Sure, the sex had gone well, but it had last time, too, and look what had happened when he woke up.

Besides, there was all the trouble about Galen coming back, Omar and Larry closeted away in endless meetings, the panthers worrying about their women, even Nicholas and Curtis moving onto the adjacent land.

What if the movie studio meant strangers were able to wander anywhere on Carnal Connections’ property? What if it wouldn’t be safe anymore for the women to go on their weekly run? They liked to go alone without the men, to do their own run at their own pace. He knew they were sensible and stayed away from the boundaries, but that wasn’t the point. The fact was, if strangers could access their land from the movie studio, how would he know Serena was safe?

And what about all the fucking wolves? Larry was a wolf. So were Kurt, Nicholas, Tor, and now Raegan, who had turned out to be Tor’s father. Suddenly there were five wolves in the panther pack. Even though Autumn had mated with Nicholas, a wolf, and Curtis, who was human, Josh wasn’t convinced mixing panthers and wolves was a good thing. Raegan seemed as if he were an honorable man, as did all the others, but who knew really what they’d be like in a crisis?

Then there was David. Leticia wanted him to be nice, wanted him to be her doting brother, and JB said he was working hard. But JB was only a human. A rogue panther like David could easily hide his real personality from a mere human. David could be planning anything at all. With Drew and Charlie maybe, or with Galen, or with the whole damn lot of them.

Life should be perfect and happy and joyous. He was lying here with his wonderful Serena in his arms, having just fucked her brains out. And having had his own brains fucked out, too.

But there were too many things going on. Too many possible dangers and too much potential evil surrounding them for him to rest.

He half expected someone to break down the door and tell him something had gone wrong. He just couldn’t relax. He couldn’t believe he was going to achieve a happy ending.
